LAH ACTORS
TRAIN. DEVELOP. PROGRESS.
Professional actor training and development in Bedfordshire.
LAH ACTORS provides structured training for actors at different stages of their development, with an emphasis on truthful performance, listening, vulnerability, character, connection and professional progression.
LIVE IN THE TRUTH.
This principle applies both to acting and to the wider philosophy of the Hub: work truthfully, listen openly, understand others with empathy and become more comfortable expressing yourself authentically.
Affordable Professional Training
LAH was created so that high-quality professional actor development does not have to be inaccessible because of cost or location. Affordability remains part of our identity as we grow.
LAH ACTORS — SIX-WEEK SCENE STUDY
Saturdays
11am–2pm
Six consecutive weeks
Hat Factory, 65–67 Bute Street, Luton, LU1 2EY
18+
The content we will be studying will be given once payment is made.
Actors receive their allocated scenes as soon as their place is confirmed so that line learning can begin before the first physical session.
Course Ethos
There is no pressure to arrive at LAH already being “good” at acting. Scene Study is a process of exploration. We ask actors to arrive open, relaxed and willing to listen, take risks, understand the people they are playing and show empathy towards both their characters and everyone else in the room.
LIVE IN THE TRUTH.
What to Bring
Bring anything you genuinely feel may help you or the scene. This could be something practical for the character, clothing, a prop or simply your script and notes. There is no requirement to bring unnecessary items.
Off-Book Expectation
Actors must be fully off-book by Week 4.
Learning the lines early allows the later sessions to focus on listening, chemistry, vulnerability, behaviour and truthful performance instead of line recall.
The Six-Week Structure
Week 1 — Meisner & Movement
Meisner-based exercises incorporating movement, listening, presence, instinct and truthful response. Preparation for the scene work begins here. Actors should already have started learning their lines before Week 1.
Week 2 — Understand the Play
Explore the story, themes, circumstances and relationships within the play. Actors also discuss how they initially see the characters behaving and moving within each scene.
Week 3 — Character & Subtext
Understand the characters, their objectives and what exists underneath the dialogue. Explore how to apply the character truthfully to yourself rather than simply performing an external idea of the character.
Week 4 — Scene 1: Truth & Chemistry
Actors must now be fully off-book. Perform Scene 1 and explore chemistry, listening, vulnerability, connection, individual nuance and finding the truth within the scene.
Week 5 — Scene 2: Apply the Process
Perform Scene 2 fully off-book. Apply the listening, character, subtext, movement, connection and truthful-performance principles developed throughout the programme to different material.
Week 6 — LIVE IN THE TRUTH
Choose your favourite of the two scenes and perform it fully. Bring together everything developed throughout the programme and approach the performance with full commitment.
LIVE IN THE TRUTH.
